California Proposition 8
California Proposition 8 is a bigoted attempt to restrict freedoms.
I’m all for freedom of speech, no matter how hateful or stupid it is. In most cases, most of us rationalists, atheists, humanists, and agnostics would rather leave religious zealots alone to spout their delusional rhetoric. However, now some of these people have used this freedom of speech to take away the basic fundamental rights of others.
To any religious fuckwits that voted to pass proposition 8, do you really think that having gay marriage mentioned in our children’s schools will turn them gay? The fear that your religious leaders instilled into you to vote yes was unwarranted and should have opened your eyes to the manipulative tactics that con-artists use to control you. Your “traditional” marriage was never threatened, only your belief that you have a religious justification to discriminate is the real issue. It’s none of your business what other people do.
Organized religions and religious leaders, you are free to decline marrying people within your belief systems for whatever reason, but it is none of your business what people do outside of your belief system. Stop trying to make everyone else bow to your version of god.
For those of you of same sex that wish to marry and yet your church will not, then go to an open-minded justice of the peace or captain of a ship or some other belief system that will perform the ceremony, since that is all it is, a ceremony to celebrate your union.
To all those people that believe that your god hates same-sex encounters/unions, then sure, the figment of your imagination that you call “God” really does hate them, but that simply makes you a bigot. Organized (read disorganized) religions do not have control over, or a monopoly on, or even a say as to what consenting people do with each other or if they want to legally contract as life partners in marriage. Continue to live that limited, closed-ended lifestyle for yourselves and stay the hell out of everyone else’s business.
And to the government. You too should stay the hell out of affairs that are not directly related to the safety of the people. There are too many biased laws in place that treat married people and single people differently. It’s time to strip away the useless and bigoted parts of government.

Thank you for this excellent and eloquent blog. I could not agree more and it is PAST TIME that your message was embraced. The distorted teachings of religion that have caused our society to regress into an ancient-minded existence is appalling. It’s clear who/what the culprit is and what venomous tactics it brings out in its followers. The ignorant and bigoted need a HUGE wake-up call into modern society.
Thanks again for your words.

Someone said that calling Prop 8 a hate-based issue weakened the argument against this type of discrimination. Here’s my reply:
On the surface they surely don’t play it as anything to do with hate, in that they’ll claim it’s for the love/grace/will of God and protection of the sanctity of marriage, and many of the sheep believe that too, but the disdain/hate stems from the religious leaders that use the enemy as the focal point for their argument. They believe that Satan has corrupted the minds and souls of not only gays and lesbians but of all non-Christian infidels and blasphemers, and they will do anything, including control freaking everyone’s lives to win the battle against the hated enemy of evil.
Hate may not be the only factor involved, since some religious leaders may FEAR their own gay tendencies and lash out thinking they’re doing themselves some good in denial, but I think the root emotion is typically based in hate for anything that goes against their Christian beliefs. They HATE the idea of their children being taught about same-couple marriage, even though their children will get that information regardless. Many HATE the idea of same-couple sexual activities, regardless if girl-on-girl is more socially acceptable. Many HATE the idea that their precious definition of marriage is threatened, even though they do not own the global definition of marriage. Sure, hate maybe too strong of catch-all word, but I don’t think it weakens the argument. Discrimination is a hate crime.
Here’s a myspace blog that gives a strong indication that same-sex unions was not only celebrated by the early Christian church, but that they also did not hate the idea of making same-sex couples saints!
