A good warm up and a cool down are also key to building muscle correctly. Before putting muscles under any strain we should do some stretches and basic warm ups and any weight lifts should be small and light before moving to muscle building weights

In order to grow, muscles must fully recover from their last workout, every workout. If you are over-training and work the muscles before they have fully recovered, you will break down the muscle tissue before it has rebuilt-making it impossible to build muscle

I've heard that it is important that the blood stays in the worked-out muscle during cool-down and that taking a shower right after a workout removes the blood by cooling the body too fast. It is better to wait at least an hour after a workout before jumping in the shower or swimming.
